Greenhouse Targets with Teeth

The Greens are committed to transforming NSW’s energy and transport industries to build a low carbon, jobs-rich future.

As technologies develop, tougher targets become feasible. At this stage, we believe the following targets set the benchmark for change in NSW:

1. Greenhouse gas emissions targets

• 20% reduction on 1990 levels by 2012
• 50% reduction on 1990 levels by 2020
• 80% reduction on 1990 levels by 2050

2. Renewable energy targets

• 20% by 2012
• 50% by 2020

3. Energy efficiency targets

• 10% reduction in energy consumption by 2011;
• 15% by 2015
